All PC monitors aren’t created equal. The regular black Dell or HP monitors that the rest of us usually use at our office desks for writing and spreadsheets don’t quite make the cut for professional gamers looking to get the highest performance out of their screens.

e-sport displays are designed for speed and accuracy

That’s where e-sports-focused displays like BenQ’s new Zowie XL2540, with its super-fast 240Hz refresh rate, come in. Rather than focus on things like resolution or pure image quality, e-sport displays are designed for speed and accuracy in displaying images.

Unlike other high-end monitors, the Zowie XL2540 only has a 1080p screen (instead of a 2K or 4K display) in order to focus on the low-latency refresh rate that professional e-sports gamers demand from their displays. In the fast-paced world of PC gaming, sometimes a delay of milliseconds between display refreshes can mean the difference between victory and defeat.

Aside from the 240Hz refresh rate, the rest of the Zowie XL2540’s specs are more or less in line for a decent desktop display, with a DVI port, two HDMI ports, and a DisplayPort for connectivity, along with four USB ports (three downstream to connect other devices, one upstream to connect to your computer). However, I would be remiss not to mention the incredible wing-like flaps that serve as a shield to protect your privacy and block out external light.
