With more than 50,000 applications in the Android Market, it can be tricky finding something that stands out. But we’ve got your back. After the break are just a few of the apps that we here at Android Central use on a daily basis. Bon appetite!
Jerry Hildebrand – Solitaire by Ken Magic
The classic solitaire game is a favorite of nerds and secretaries everywhere. Developer Ken Magic has brought it to Android in a flawless way. Choose from Regular Solitaire, Spider, Freecell, or Forty Thieves, all done with a great interface and designed with a touch screen in mind. Another plus, at least for me, is the ability to stop and save in mid game. I only really fiddle with games on my phone as a “time filler” when I’m waiting around for someone or something, and saving in the middle allows me to actually finish a game. Well try to anyway…solitaire is hard….I need a red eight. Free [Market Link | App Brain]
Adam Sawyer – Jotter
A lot of times I just need to write a tidbit of information and then send it to my e-mail so I don’t lose it. I’m constantly flashing new software (it’s an addiction) onto my phone — and switching SD cards, so no files are safe there. This app just opens up a single line text box where you can put in a phone number, or small memo, and hit a button and it instantly e-mails it to you. It’s a lot easier than some of the better known memo apps where you have to create a folder, priority, and alert notification settings which take up time. Best of all, it’s free! Jared DiPane – Call Log Widget
With the lack of physical send and end keys on my Droid, one of the most difficult things to get used to was accessing my call log. I like having a very clean home screen with only the main icons that I use daily, and I was rather upset having to limit myself down to three so I could include the phone. I then found out about the Call Log Widget, which displays your last phone call, whether in or outbound, and gives you the option to call that person right from it. Once the name of the last caller is clicked, the devices call log will appear, giving access and ease to call anyone else that may need to be called. With a very light footprint as far as application space, and a very clean appearance, this free application has earned a permanent spot on my screen. [Market Link | AppBrain]
Phil Nickinson – Archipelago
A fine game to waste away an hour or so, Archipelago pits your air force against an enemy’s in an epic 3.7-inch (on the Nexus One, anyway) battle to control island bases. Touch one of your islands and then another — either a neutral base or an enemy’s — and half of your forces take off. But that leaves your own base half has protected, so there is some strategy involved here. Your forces grow while on the islands, and the larger the island, the quicker the growth. But don’t forget the baby bases, too, because every fighter counts. Free demo [Market Link | AppBrain] or $2.99 full version [Market Link | AppBrain]
