GDC 2014: Running Shadow tosses in horror RPG with endless running

Yet another great game we got to check out at the Game Developer Conference is Running Shadow. It borrows a lot of the standard elements from the 3D endless runners we already know, but tosses in a lot of role-playing game elements, such as equipment that changes your character’s stats, mana-consuming special moves to dispatch foes, and enough hitpoints to make sure you can take a licking and keep on running.

The game’s premise is of a thief from the lower caste of a highly divided society who manages to swindle a powerful magic item from a secretive cult and make off with it. Considering most endless runners are pretty bare bones when it comes to gameplay, it’s nice to see some extra elements thrown in. The acrobatics employed by the main character are also pretty freakin’ sweet.

Running Shadow is launching on Android this Spring as a free-to-play title.
