Google announces Q1 2010 earnings

Google this afternoon released its Q1 2010 earnings report, showing $6.77 billion in revenue over the first three months of the year — a 23 percent increase over 2009. Net income was $1.96 billion, up from $1.42 billion over Q1 2009. As of March 31, the company — which employs more than 20,000 people — had $26.5 billion cash on hand. Full press release here. Mobile “is growing very nicely.”

Susan Wojcicki, VP of product management: Discussing ad results on Android and how clickthrough increased when phone numbers were returned as search results.

Jeff Huber, senior VP of engineering: Smartphone knows your location; launched “Near me now” on mobile searches. Part of Google’s “Mobile first” strategy (CEO Eric Schmidt talked about that at his MWC keynote).

These are small features, but big integrations.

Android use is up 70 percent quarter over quarter; 34 OEMs manufacturing Android phones. 60,000 sold every day. (A number Schmidt has already said.)
