Making a move towards keeping its service family-friendly for all, Vine is revising its rules and terms of service to completely ban the posting of “explicit sexual content.” After reiterating that the Vine community and overall creativity of content has grown, it points out that a very small percentage of videos being posted are not a good fit for the community as a whole.
“For more than 99 percent of our users, this doesn’t really change anything. For the rest: we don’t have a problem with explicit sexual content on the Internet –– we just prefer not to be the source of it.”
Says the succinct blog post, reminding folks that it has no problem inherently with the type of content, but that it can be better posted somewhere other than on Vine. Users will now have the option to report content if it is indeed explicit, and Vine even goes as far as to post a help article FAQ to let you know what it will consider explicit content when it comes to blocking and removing it from the service.
Although we can see a few people get upset over being censored online, it comes down to the point that if you agree to the terms of service of an app, you have to play by its rules. If you don’t like it, there are plenty of other options out there.
