Barnes & Noble Nook ereader update

Looks like the Barnes & Noble Nook e-reader’s getting an update right … about … now! Gizmodo got slipped an internal memo that details the Version 1.2 upgrade:

  • Improved in-store WiFi and “seamless connectivity” to in-store content and promotions. (In other words, walk into the store and you’ll see B&N fare on your Nook.)
  • Improved opening of books and periodicals. (No, we’re not going to start calling them ePeriodicals.)
  • Better battery life.
  • “Reading Now” and settings buttons are more responsive.
  • Current page and bookmarks are properly saved when the Nook’s turned off.
  • Bookmarks now show page number.
  • “LendMe” books are now noted as such.
  • Daily subscription with issues are all in one folder.
  • Better back button.
  • My Documents can be sorted by title and author.

Word on the street (and from our pal Matt Miller at ZDNet) is that the update significantly speeds up the Nook — always a good thing. If you don’t want to wait for the update to roll out over the air, you can update it manually here.  [Barnes & Noble via Giz]
