Partypoker Windows Vista Fix

One of the first programs that I have installed on my new notebook running the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system was the Partypoker application. This is the client that users of the poker community have to install to play poker on their system.

The first start of the Partypoker application went fine and I was able to log in to Partypoker and play poker games. The next time I tried to start the Partypoker application I witnessed something that left me puzzled for a while. The application would not start and no matter how hard I tried, I could not really get the program to run anymore.

Clicking on the Partypoker icon did load something from the hard drive but the program interface would not start up. A quick look in the Windows Task Manager revealed that the partygaming.exe program was indeed running and everything could have been in order if the program window would have appeared on the screen. But since it did not, I had to dig deeper to find a solution for the problem that I was experiencing.

I first thought it was a problem with some of the new security applications that were running by default in Windows Vista, like the improved Windows Firewall or maybe another application that somehow interfered with the execution of the application. But turning off all those security features did not help at all as the result was still the same: the program window would not show up at all.

Then I decided to try and run the program with elevated privileges, and guess what: the Partypoker application window appeared and I was able to log in to play some poker. So, if you are running into issues loading this application or related programs, I’d suggest you right-click the shortcut or application and select the run as administrator option from the menu to see if it resolves the issue.
