Alongside the announcement today of Sony’s new Lifelog application was this, what Sony claims may be the tiniest gadget the company has ever produced. Known simply as Core, the diminutive dongle sits at the heart of Sony’s first foray into the wearable technology space, and will be available with a companion wristband, or Smartband as Sony labels it.
Beyond the regular – and honestly, pretty boring looking – plain bands that come from Sony, some more fashionable options are being dreamt up through various partners for the project. After all, you’re expected to wear this all day, why shouldn’t it match your outfit?
The Core itself will be installable in various types of wearable accessory, and beyond just tracking things like fitness and sleep, with the companion Lifelog app the Core will keep track of your entertainment and social activities too. Making every day a little more fun, as Sony says.
The Core and the wristband are scheduled to go on sale this spring, but we were told in the press conference to expect more in Barcelona next month at Mobile World Congress. So lots to look forward to after CES already. Head on past the break for a few more snaps of Sony’s new wearable.
