It’s a bit of a working weekend here, as we now have Android apps up and running on the developer channel for the ASUS Chromebook Flip. We’re going to have a ton of stuff on this in the coming days. There’s a lot to figure out. There’s a lot that’s unfinished. It’s a weird collision of worlds right now, for sure.
Don’t run out and buy a year-old Chromebook just to do this unless you have money to burn. It’s very early days still. That much is clear. Let us do the dumb stuff for you.
And with that, a few thoughts on things worth thinking about …
- Cool 360 video from Microsoft on its anechoic chamber. (If you’ve never been in one — an anechoic chamber, not a 360-degree video — they’re pretty disorienting.)
- But, uh, F-16s don’t land on aircraft carriers.
- Here’s what happens when you try to sandbag Eric Schmidt on the issue of pay equity.
- This Ted Talk showcases everything that’s wrong with messaging today. Can you look at the changes to Apple’s iMessage or the upcoming Allo or Snapchat or so many other apps and say they’re aiming for “high-quality” communication?
- Wait — these aren’t the same person?
- Excellent coverage last week from iMore on Apple’s WWDC conference.
- I completely agree with this NYT column, though. It’s easy to forget that all this “change the world” noise is really about selling things. And so Apple’s all about makings its things better.
- I can’t remember what I said publicly on the possibility of iMessage on Android. Hindsight is easy, though. I don’t think it’s going to happen. And there’s really no reason for it to.
- What if Apple Music on Android was just an elaborate troll, to get folks’ hopes up on a newer, more “openy” Apple?
- More likely it’s just an outlier.
- The new Chili Peppers record isn’t bad. But I still think I’m with You was criminally underrated.
- LMAO. I bought one.
OK, that’s it for this week. We’ve got things to break. See y’all Monday.
