It’s the second day of March, and an Apps of the Week post is a great way to kick off the new month. As we do every week, the Android Central writers take some time to chime in with an app that they’re using on a regular basis. We’ve got a good mix of utilities, entertainment apps and games here for you to check out.
Hang with us after the break and see how our picks stack up this week.
Jerry Hildenbrand – Mokriya Craigslist
If you buy or sell a lot of crap on Craigslist, here’s a fairly new app (that just got a big update as well) that really makes it easy. Mobile sites suck, and there’s a million Craigslist apps in Google Play, but Mokirya Craigslist is pretty slick. You can easily post something for sale, browse and search for anything that might be posted, select your categories and everything else you would need in a Craigslist app.
My only complaint would be that it’s not using the Holo UI. That doesn’t mean the layout and controls are bad — in fact they work really well, and I like some of the elements better than Holo — but it’s always nice to see an app try to use the recommended layout and style. Don’t let that stop you, give it a look. Mokiriya Craigslist is officially licensed by Craigslist, free, and 100-percent ad free.

Sean Brunett – Guess The Movie!
If you’re a movie buff, you’re going to want to check out this fun and addicting game. It presents a minimalist movie poster and you have to guess what film it is. Being a big fan of movies, I have really enjoyed this game and the posters in fact. When you are presented with a poser, there is no multiple choice; instead, you have to type in the name of the movie, which makes it much more difficult. You can get help with clues if you’re stuck and then share the answer with friends on Twitter of Facebook. If you really like one of the posters, you can follow a link to purchase one.

Andrew Martonik – MLS MatchDay
This week’s app picks post couldn’t have landed on a better day for my choice. Today is the opening of the MLS soccer season here in the U.S. and right on time the MLS MatchDay app has been updated for the 2013 season. The new interface follows holo guidelines and is much easier to navigate between the different portions of the app. Along with a complete visual overhaul, it has also received proper tablet interface support. The final new feature is the integration of MLS Live, which will let you watch games directly on your device if you subscribe.
It’s a big update, and with the amount of time I spend in this app between March and October I’m extremely glad they’ve made the improvements.

Chris Parsons – Sonic Jump
Being a fan of the original Sonic games, it was only natural that I purchase the latest offering in the Sonic series to come from SEGA America. Sonic Jump stakes claim as being the original platform jumper and rightfully so I suppose, long before Doodle Jump Sonic was jumping platforms like nobodies business. The game offers some great visuals, gameplay is varied thanks to several different modes you can play such as story mode or the infinite arcade mode. Plus, it’s cheap — Sonic Jump will only set you back $2 and it’s got a ton of replay value.

Richard Devine – Runtastic Pedometer
I love this app, far more than the Fitbit app I’ve been trying out recently. Theres things about Fitbit that just don’t sit nicely with me, and Runtastic Pedometer does what I want it to and does it well. It’s a pedometer app, so needs little explaining, but it’s designed really, really well — as with all the Runtastic apps — and seems to be pretty accurate. The app will record your walking pace, distance covered, estimate the calories burned and along with the total steps will tell you your steps per minute.
Pedometer also makes use of the expandable notifications in Jelly Bean and as you’re walking the step count increases right there in the notification tray. And, if you’re a Myfitnesspal user you can connect both apps and any activity recorded in Pedometer will sync with Myfitnesspal. Nicely done. It’s available in free ad-supported and pro versions, with the pro version costing just $0.99. The free version is somewhat limited though, and there’s a little drain on battery life as you might expect, but it’s still a nicely done app.
