HTC CEO Cher Wang claims she has something up her sleeve that will be revealed at CES 2016. Specifically, she says that HTC and the company’s partners at Valve have recently made “a very, very big technological breakthrough” in its HTC Vive virtual reality headset and that it will be demoed at the big electronics trade show in Las Vegas in early January.
Engadget spoke to Wang at the company’s Vive Unbound developers forum in Beijing and found out that this big, but mysterious, breakthrough was the reason why HTC decided to delay the release of the Vive from the end of 2015 to April 2016:
“We shouldn’t make our users swap their systems later just so we could meet the December shipping date.” That said, Wang remained mum on what this upgrade is all about, except that it’ll be unveiled at CES early next month.
Wang added that the car maker Audi plans to put in HTC Vive headsets in all of its flagship stores sometime in 2016 to offer customers virtual test drives of its vehicles,
