Lenovo is the latest manufacturer to signify its interest in making devices locally in India. Dubbed “Make in India,” the initiative is heralded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to facilitate foreign brands to locally manufacture electronics. The manufacturer has also announced that the Moto X Force, the international variant of the Droid Turbo 2, will be announced in the country shortly.

Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing mentioned that the vendor is interested in local manufacturing as well as increasing its R&D efforts following a meeting with Modi:

We will invest more in India, and not only in manufacturing. Almost all our PCs are made in India and we recently announced smartphone manufacturing also.

We will invest in R&D also and that is my commitment to PM Modi.

Yuanqing also shed insight into Lenovo’s performance in the Indian market, stating that the vendor amassed $2.5 billion over the last three years:

In three years, we have reached a revenue of $2.5 billion (roughly Rs. 16,540 crores) in India compared to a target of $800 million (roughly Rs. 5,292 crores) when we came to this country which is fast evolving in the area of technology.

At the showcase event, Lenovo also unveiled its new crowdsourced logo as well as the company’s new tagline, “Innovation never stands still.”
