Google announced today that its photo upload and sharing service, Google Photos, has hit 100 million monthly active users. This comes just five months after the Google spun its photo service out of the confines of Google+ and into its own app.
No matter how you slice it, that’s pretty impressive for 5 months. It doesn’t begin to approach Instagram’s 400 million monthly active users, but one could rightly argue that Google Photos is a completely different beast, being more focused on giving you a solution to store and manipulate unlimited high-quality versions of your photos across multiple platforms. Add in a sprinkle of intelligent search magic and you have a recipe for success. It will definitely be interesting to see where the user base sits when Google Photos reaches its first birthday next May.
Google celebrated the occasion with a blog post detailing “11 things to know about Google Photos,” and it’s worth a quick gander at the source link below if you’re interested. And be sure to let us know if you count yourself among the 100 million in the comments below!
