Along with the reveal of the YouTube Red subscription service, Google has also announced plans to launch a stand-alone YouTube Music app, which will be designed to help users find the songs and music videos they want to hear and see faster. A release date for the app has yet to be revealed.
Google explained why they are launching a separate YouTube music app in a FAQ announcement:
We’ve learned that users want specialized experiences – like YouTube Kids and YouTube Gaming – for certain use cases and we wanted to create a way to more easily discover the artists, albums, videos and versions that you love. Additionally, we wanted to deliver an app that enables you to experience the music you love, with less work.
While the app will be free to download and use when it launches, more features can be unlocked with a paid subscription to YouTube Red, including ad-free video, offline access and background play. Google will give anyone who downloads the YouTube Music app a free 14-day trial to YouTube Red without the need to enter credit card information. It will launch first in the US, with plans to open it up to more countries in 2016.
