Last week we asked everyone if they had flashed a Marshmallow factory image in our weekly poll. Google made the images available for supported Nexus devices — the Nexus 5, the Nexus 6, The Nexus 7 (2013), the Nexus 9 and the Nexus Player — on October 5, and I was sure that most people with that supported hardware who read AC would be all over it.
We included an option for folks who can’t yet flash anything because they don’t have supported hardware, and that’s about 21 percent (or 1,624 people) of us. That means that most people didn’t bother to cast a vote, because the real-world numbers here would be well over 95 percent of us. But that will change for many of us soon enough.
Some of us (the smart ones, maybe) are fine waiting for the update to come to them. 2,029 people (about 26 percent of the vote) don’t feel like fiddling or flashing or unlocking and are happy to wait it out.
Eight percent of us (646) are slackers and didn’t get to it yet. Come on, you know you wanna do things that might force you to reset your phone. (I’m the little devil voice on your left shoulder. Give in to me.)
This one is horrible: 856 people want to flash the image (or the OTA) but aren’t sure how to do it. We must find these people and do everything we can to help them. If you voted this way, don’t worry. We all had to learn, and we are willing to help. Get your tail into the forums and holler, and you’ll find the help you need. You’ll soon be Marshmallowing like a pro, and able to pay it forward for Android N.
For the 32 percent of us who did flash something or other, how is it treating you? I took one for the team and flashed the Nexus 6 image on my Project Fi phone (I’ve since been told not to recommend anyone else do this, something else is coming for Fi Nexus 6 phones) and everything seems to be doing well. No big bugs, my apps work, and nothing has caught fire. Yet.
