One of the subtle parts of the Nexus 6P and 5X announcement was that both new phones are ready to use on Project Fi from day one. That’s a big deal if you were holding out not wanting to go with a Nexus 6 to use the service, but it’s also important to note that it also means you can finance one of the new Nexuses if you’re a Fi customer.
Rather than pay $379 to $649 outright, you can be charged in equal monthly installments for 24 months, ranging from $15.79 per month for a base model Nexus 5X, up to $27.04 for a loaded 6P. There’s a credit check, as you’d expect, but you don’t have to make a down payment and there’s no financing charge — you’ll just pay the same amount, but over 24 months. All you have to pay for up front is sales tax, if applicable, and faster shipping if you want it. You can also pay off the remaining amount of your phone at any time, whether you’re getting ready to sell the phone or if you just don’t want the lingering payments anymore.
Unlike with the Nexus 6 you’ll have the full range of colors and storage sizes available here — so whether you’re upgrading from your Nexus 6 or starting Project Fi for the first time you don’t have to feel like you’re making a compromise. If you have an invite or an account, just head to the Project Fi website, click on “Your plan” and then “Upgrade device” to get started.
