Tesla CEO Elon Musk today sent a companywide email to his employees sharing the results of an investigation that was conducted on claims of unsafe working environments. The claims also advocated for unionization of Tesla’s factory. The text of the email was first obtained by TechCrunch and we have verified its authenticity.
Musk has been on the offensive against the allegations from the start, made by a Tesla employee going by the name of Jose Moran, who said that preventable injuries were common at the company’s factory and that mandatory overtime was taking a toll on employees.
the odds are “strongly against” Tesla
In the email, Musk notes that Tesla and Ford are the only two American car companies to have never gone bankrupt, and that the odds are “strongly against” Tesla. He said the tactics of the UAW are “disingenuous or outright false,” that the safety claims made in Moran’s post are inaccurate, and that the company has hired thousands of workers to create a third shift and reduce overtime. He also says that stock grants at Tesla mean employees earn significantly more than at other US auto companies.
Musk adds that quality of life improvements are coming, too, including free frozen yogurt stands and, in true outrageous Elon Musk fashion, “a Tesla electric pod car roller coaster (with an optional loop the loop route, of course!) that will allow fast and fun travel throughout our Fremont campus, dipping in and out of the factory and connecting all the parking lots.”
