Splashify is a free software program for Microsoft’s Windows operating system to browse desktop wallpapers, download them and set them as the background image.
There are so many wallpaper programs out there that it is hard to keep an overview. All support browsing images locally, and to download and set selected ones as the desktop background image.
This pretty much sums up what Splashify is all about. You can run it without installation, and browse lists of images from Unsplash that are divided into the sections curated, popular, latest, and search.
The program is super easy to use. Use the mouse to browse the available images; once you have found one, click on it to display it in the program window. You can then click on the “set wallpaper” button right away to set it as the desktop wallpaper.

Splashify
The program downloads the wallpaper image, resizes it so that it matches the desktop resolution, and sets it as the wallpaper image.
This is pretty much all of the functionality that Splashify offers at this point in time. The only other options you have are to resize the entire interface (zoom in or out), and to click on a link to open creator’s profile page on the Unsplash website.
The program has two main issues: first, that it will resize the image automatically without you having any control over the process. This means often that the image is cut and not displayed in full on the desktop. The program lacks a full download button sorely, and the only way around this is to locate the image on the Unsplash website by following the creator link and browsing all photos published by the profile. There is no direct link to the image on Unsplash, so that this is your only option.

Considering that the program is quite large for what it does, it has a download size of more than 30 Megabytes, you may prefer to visit Unsplash directly to browse and download photos on the site directly.
The site has more to offer on top of that, as you may browse collections that cover topics such as “moon and stars”, “Christmas, snow and winter”, or “Yosemite”.
Closing Words
Splashify is not a bad program, but it lacks features that would make it a viable alternative to using the Unsplash website directly. These include downloading the wallpaper image without resizing, adding more repositories to the application, and adding automation features to it that rotate wallpapers regularly.
Now You: do you use programs to download wallpapers?
