OK, folks. Here’s where we stand. We still haven’t heard anything official from Motorola regarding the Android 2.1 update for the Droid, and considering the PR whoopsie that’s been experienced the past few days, we’re probably not likely to. (That said, now would be a perfect time for Motorola to just come out and let us know what happened, and that they’re working on it.)
Anyhoo, as you can see above, a memo released this morning to Verizon employees says that the update is “expected to roll out soon.” Basically what we’ve been told was that Motorola expected the updated to clear Verizon’s testing process. If you’re new around here, know that Verizon is infamous for its testing of hardware and software. We’ve seen entire phones never see the light of day because of it.
So what does “Expected to roll out soon” mean? It could be that the update has passed testing and is really going to roll out soon. Or it could just be the usual PR speak that has us running in circles. But we’ll take what we can get. And it’s heartening to know that they’re still working on it, so we can ignore a lot of the “No update for the Droid!” FUD that’s floating around out there. Thanks, tipster!
