Google is teaming up with the city of Toronto to loan free portable Wi-Fi hotspots to low-income families through the city’s public library system. The new initiative is starting at six library branches throughout Toronto, all located in low-income neighborhoods.

Google notes lending out the hotspots, which provide users with 10 gigabytes of data per month, will be a simple and effective way to get people online.
Toronto Mayor John Tory is set to join representatives from Google Canada on Wednesday to launch the program at the Toronto Public Library’s Thorncliffe branch.
Hotspots can be loaned out for up to six months at a time. This is just Google’s latest initiative to bring affordable internet to more people. In the United States, the company earlier this year announced an expansion of its Google Fiber service into public housing projects in its Fiber cities.
