Huawei’s MediaPad M2 10 is a new stylus-toting tablet

New Huawei tablet includes stylus input and Harman/Kardon audio.

Chinese telecoms giant Huawei is getting back into the large form factor tablet game, with the announcement of the MediaPad M2 10 at CES 2016 in Las Vegas. It’s a new Android 5.1 Lollipop tablet with optional pen input through Huawei’s Active Stylus, which boasts 2048-level pressure sensitivity. And the manufacturer has also partnered with Harman/Kardon to bring high-res audio to the tablet — the audio firm’s Clari-Fi tech is designed to compensate for lost audio fidelity.

The front of the MediaPad M2 10 is dominated by its 10-inch, 1020×1080-resolution display, beneath which you’ve got a fingerprint sensor for biometric security.

Powering the tablet is Huawei’s homegrown Kirin 930 octa-core CPU, which is paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage in the standard version. Buyers picking up the premium version of the slate will get 3GB and 64GB, as well as a bundled Huawei Active Stylus.

On the software side, it’s running EMUI 3.1, which we’ve seen on plenty of Huawei phones this year. So it’ll be interesting to see how this custom UI makes the jump up to a 10-inch form factor.

Aside from these early details, Huawei has confirmed that it’ll sell the new MediaPad in the U.S. in Q1 2016, but has nothing to share when it comes to pricing or release dates.
