In line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government of India, vivo Mobile India today announced the commencement of its manufacturing unit in Greater Noida, a suburb of New Delhi. The inauguration was done in the presence of Alex Feng, CEO, vivo Mobile India and Le Yucheng, the Chinese Ambassador to India, along with local dignitaries.

Decreasing the company’s dependence on imports, the unit will cater to the manufacturing and assembling of vivo smartphones, and is all set to manufacture and assemble several new models such as Y11, Y21, and Y15S which will meet the present domestic demand, helping the company grow its market share further.

The company has invested approximately ₹1.25 billion as its first phase of investment in the 30,000 sq.m. facility which comprises several assemble lines, quality control lab, and warehouses. The new manufacturing unit, with a maximum production capacity of one million devices a month, will also help create around 2,200 jobs.

As one of the top 10 smartphone brands in the world, vivo entered Indian market last year and celebrated its first anniversary in the local market last week, on December 15.
