After launching the 5.5-inch Marathon M5 with a monstrous 6,020mAh battery earlier this year, Gionee is following up with a larger model, this time offering a 6-inch Full HD AMOLED display. Dubbed the Marathon M5 Plus, the handset is aimed at those looking for a mid-ranger with two-day battery life.
The highlight of the device is a 5,020mAh battery with fast charging, with a full charge time a shade under two hours. The all-metallic phone also offers USB Type C connectivity and a fingerprint sensor at the front.
Here’s what you get with the Marathon M5 Plus:
Display | 6-inch Full HD AMOLED display |
SoC | octa-core MediaTek MT6582 clocked at 1.3GHz |
RAM | 3GB |
Storage | 64GB internal memory, microSD slot up to 128GB |

Connectivity | Dual-SIM dual LTE with VoLTE |
Battery | 5,020mAh battery with fast charging |

Gionee CEO William Lu said during the launch that the decision to go with a fingerprint sensor at the front was made after receiving overwhelming feedback about the same on social media. In addition to unlocking the phone, you’ll be able to use the fingerprint sensor to safeguard files, images, call logs, and more.
Gionee has also announced its global roaming feature, giving customers the ability to retain their local SIM card when traveling abroad.
The Marathon M5 Plus will retail for 2,499 Chinese Yuan ($390), and will be going up for sale in the country starting December 25.
