It looks like there’s more demand for a $1,500 smartwatch than first expected. A new report says that TAG Heuer will begin to make 2,000 units per week of its recently launched Connected smartwatch, versus its current level of 1,200 units per week. This jump in production is in order to meet demand for the expensive Android Wear device.

Bloomberg reports that TAG Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver stated that the company has received requests for 100,000 of the Connected smartwatche from “retailers, agents and subsidiaries.” However, he added that online sales of the watch will now be suspended until May or June of 2016, so that old-fashioned physical stores can be given the first chance at selling them.

Biver also stated that TAG Heuer will expand its lineup of smartwatches, but those new devices won’t go on sale for a while:

“Considering the success of this single and unique watch, we will develop a collection made out of different varieties, executions and materials at the end of next year or beginning of 2017,” Biver said. The extension could include a gold and a diamond set version, he added.”
