Late last week, LG unexpectedly canceled the launch of the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE less than a week after the smartwatch went on sale. Now the company has revealed a little more information behind this decision, and it’s due to a hardware issue that LG said might have affected the display on the Android Wear-based watch.
Previously, LG only said it had found a “hardware issue” during its testing of the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE. Now, The Guardian has received a longer statement from LG on that problem:
“For competitive and supplier relations reasons we are not in a position to communicate the specifics of the issue that led to this decision. However, what we can share is that the hardware issue was related to a new advanced component that we had incorporated in the device that had never been used in an LG wearable device before,” the company said.”
“During aggressive testing over thousands of hours under severe conditions, it was revealed that this component failed to meet LG’s quality standards and could potentially impact our image quality over the life of the device.”
LG has now pulled the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE from store shelves, but has not stated any future plans to relaunch the watch. AT&T, one of the wireless carriers that sold the watch, has already told Android Central that anyone who already purchased a Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE from them will be notified and offered either a full refund or a replacement smartwatch.
