Improved specs and full compatibility with T-Mobile and AT&T LTE networks
Huawei is on stage at CES where CEO Richard Yu has just announced the Ascend Mate 2 4G. Building on the original Ascend Mate, which was announced at CES 2013, the new Ascend Mate 2 4G sticks with the same 6.1-inch screen size but steps up the internals considerably.
Most notably of course is the addition of LTE, which will be available in devices worldwide, including the AT&T and T-Mobile networks here in the states. Backing up the new connection is a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 (MSM8928), 2GB of RAM, 802.11ac and Wifi, Bluetooth 4.0. On the camera front, Huawei is continuing a focus on imaging with a 5MP front-facing unit, and a 13MP Sony BSI sensor in the back.
Focusing on battery life and usage, Huawei claims the Ascend Mate 2 4G is capable of two full days of continuous use, packing a 4050mAh lithium-polymer battery. The device can even act as a charger for other devices — just like an external battery pack — using a MicroUSB cable.
On the software front, Huawei is iterating its Emotion UI with a simpler design, new one-handed features for larger devices and even more options for controlling apps, calls and social networking.
