Google Duo requires your Android device to possess telephony capabilities. Due to this, you will not be able to see Google Duo on devices which are Wi-Fi only, such as the Nexus 7 tablet.

Enable app installations through downloaded APK files in Android

In today’s guide, we will install Google Duo using a Nexus 7 2013, running Android 6.0.1. Even though we are using a higher version of the OS, Google Duo has good support for even Android 4.1. What is important is trying to find the necessary options in your particular version of Android. You’ll need them before you download and install the Google Duo APK file.

NOTE: Before you proceed, keep in mind that Android smartphone makers make varying interfaces, so you might not see the same interface which we are using here to guide you. However, the procedure is more or less the same. You may need to explore your Settings a bit.

You will need to navigate to your device Settings and look for the option of Security.

Navigate yourself to Security

After you find your way inside security look for the option of “Unknown Sources” and toggle it to the “On” setting.

When you have done so, you need to download the APK for Google Duo. While Google is your best friend, you can simply visit APK Mirror and find yourself all the latest versions of Google Duo.

When you have downloaded the APK, go to your Downloads and find the APK file. Tap on it and you will be given the following option:

When you have installed it, you will need to manually locate the device using your app drawer and make a shortcut to the app on your home screen, based on how your particular flavor of Android functions.

When you have done so, you need only to follow the steps of Duo and have a proper phone number on which you will register your Google Duo account on.

When you enter the verification code into the device, you will be signed into Google Duo and ready to use for video calling!

Ideally, if you use a Gmail address which has your contacts installed on your phone and on the tablet, you can make and receive Google Duo calls as long as you have an active internet connection on the device.

Let us know in the comments section which device you are using Google Duo on rather than your phone! I am currently making use of it on my Nexus 7 (2013) due to the better camera than my own smartphone.
