HTC BlinkFeed

Following ‘popularity with HTC users’, company will bring its home screen reader to non-HTC phones ‘soon’

Tucked away in a corner of HTC’s new HTC One (M8) press release is a rather interesting nugget — the Taiwanese manufacturer plans to bring its BlinkFeed home screen launcher to other Android phones “soon,” through the Google Play Store.

A footnote from the presser reads —

Following its popularity with HTC users, HTC will now make HTC BlinkFeed available to other Android devices, launching on the Google Play store soon.

BlinkFeed was listed on the Play Store yesterday, along with many other Sense 6 apps, allowing HTC to update them independently of device firmware. Right now, though, BlinkFeed is only listed as compatible with the HTC One (M8).

For HTC to make such an integral part of its Sense UI available to non-HTC consumers is an interesting (and unusual) move — and one it’s likely hoping will boost its brand awareness by exposing more users to its software and design language.

So, non-HTC users, would you try BlinkFeed on your device? Shout out in the comments.
