HTC One M8

Lots of glue contributes to poor score for DIY repair jobs

The New HTC One (M8) is pretty stunning on the outside, but what about inside? The folks at iFixit have got their hands on one and done their thing with it. Besides exposing all the nerdy parts inside, it also exposes a pretty poor outlook for anyone who might ever hope to carry out some DIY repairs.

Beneath the metal outside lies a world of glue, glue, more glue, tape and copper shielding. The motherboard is glued, which you have to remove first before getting to the battery, which is also glued. Oh, and iFixit also accidentally managed to cut the cable to the screen digitizer. And these are folks who know what they’re doing.

But, we do get to see all the cool stuff inside the new HTC One (M8) such as the Snapdragon 801 – which looks just like a chip – and the Boomsound speakers and the plastic amplifying chamber that resides behind. The repairability score is a pretty terrible 2/10, so you might want to take care of it.
