Marshall mixes old and new with its latest Bluetooth headphones

Today Marshall announced its newest top-of-the-line pair of Bluetooth headphones: the Marshall Mid Bluetooth. In essence, they take the look of the over-ear Marshall Monitor line, shrink them down to an on-ear size, and add the same hardware from the earlier Major II Bluetooth (which are simply wireless versions of the wired Major II model).

Aside from the new design, the internal hardware is extremely similar between the two Bluetooth models. Like the Major II Bluetooth, the Mid Bluetooth offers 40mm dynamic drivers, Bluetooth AptX audio, and claims of 30-plus hours of battery life. And both the Major II Bluetooth and Mid Bluetooth are on-ear headphones and use the same multidirectional brass control knob.

All that would be fine — personally, I find the Mid’s news design to be a little more elegant than the busier Major II, and choices when it comes to style are never a bad thing. Except for the fact that the new Mid Bluetooth costs $199, $50 more than the virtually identical Major II Bluetooth, which is a high price to pay for a little bit of style.

The Mid Bluetooth headphones are available now from Marshall’s website.
