Whether you hate it or you love it, Facebook is a daily dose for e-socialites. If you  can’t get enough of the notifications and want to stay up-to-date with the app, add a couple of handy widgets to your home screen!

Ordinarily, one would have to check their notifications through the shutter or opening the app, but a handy widget now brings all that information and your messages directly to your home screen!

SWIPE Widget for Facebook [Play Store] is an app which the ardent Facebook patron will definitely appreciate. The app is free on the Google PlayStore and doesn’t even require the user to have the official Facebook app installed. You can log into the web portal, set up the app as you please, and you are all set to go!

Follow the on-screen steps to complete the integration between your device and the app, and you are all set to go!

Logging into facebook.

Once you are setup, simply navigate to the widgets portion of your android device and place your new widgets as you please!

Once you have set them up on your home screen, you will automatically get notifications, messages, etc. from said widgets.

I have blocked out my notifications and messages out of respect to the privacy of friends :)

If you are concerned about battery life or other drains occurring, you are free to customize the frequency at which the widgets will fetch notifications, messages, etc. for you.

While you shouldn’t just take the app at its face value, there are plenty of features for one to mix and match with when getting familiar with the app.

Even though the app is free, it offers a number of convenient features:

  • Themes: with Facebook Blue, Material Dark and AMOLED Black being free in the app.
  • You can choose to have individual widgets such as I have, or to have one conjoined widget
  • If you are using third party apps to access Facebook such as Swipe for Facebook, Disa, or the official app, you can choose which app to interact with the widget and access your notifications!
  • You can adjust the period at which your messages / notifications are fetched, from 5 minutes to even once ever 12 hours if you aren’t feeling particularly social today.

With all these great features, avid users of Facebook owe it to themselves to at least install the app and give it a go! I know I plan on making the most of the widget when it comes to saving myself of opening every notification I get.

If you are a fan of Facebook on Android, let us know your thoughts on the app in the comments section and whether or not you would like to make it a permanent part of your app drawer!
