Able Rawer is a free program for Microsoft Windows devices to edit, convert and correct RAW images taken with digital cameras.
Most digital cameras can save photos in different image formats including jpg and the raw format.
Raw image files that are created have the name because they are not processed. That’s the main reason why RAW files are larger than many other image formats.
Different camera makers and even different models of the same manufacturer may use different raw file formats. This makes it incredible cumbersome to work with the format, as you need to find a program that supports all the different raw formats you work with.
Able RAWer
Able RAWer is a software program for editing, converting and correcting raw images on devices running the Windows operating system.
The program reads different raw image formats including rw, cr2, nef, raw, pef, raf, x3f, bay, orf, srf, mrw, dcr, dng and arw. It is therefore compatible with many digital camera models from Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Fuji, Kodak, Olympus, Casio and others. You find the list of supported cameras on the developer website.
The software program offers the following functionality
- Image processing (Color Adjust, Effects, Crop)
- Auto Adjust Colors
- Blue and Red scales
- Brightness value
- Interpolating RGBG as four colors
- Gamma
- High-quality or low-quality color interpolation
- Automatic white balance
- Camera white balance
Raw images that are opened in the application are displayed as a preview on the right side of the interface. Controls to edit and correct raw photo are provided in the footer area of the program as well as from the Image menu at the top.
One interesting feature is that Able RAWer displays the original image and the edited image at the same time allowing you to fine tune the process before saving the changes. The preview is automatically updated whenever you change settings in the application.
The file menu holds options to save the modified raw image to a different file format. Supported formats include jpg and png.
While you can make manual adjustments, for instance by modifying gamma or brightness values, you may also use automatic image enhancements tools that Able RAWer offers.
You find those listed under Image > Automatic Image Enhancement. Using them, for instance auto sharp or white balance, runs a set of automatic changes on the image.
One issue with the options is that it is not always clear what they do. For instance, it is unclear how Auto Image Enhance 1, 2 and 3 differ.
Able RAWer is available for free for most Windows operating systems. It can be downloaded from the developer’s website Graphic Region.
