This has been an under the radar issue with Windows ever since I can remember, and it seems to be a part of Windows 10. If you feel the quality of your wallpapers isn’t what you thought it would be, you can get back that original graphical quality with the help of a few steps.
This is a routine run of the mill guide and can be easily done by just about anyone as long as you follow the steps to the letter!
Steps to disable wallpaper quality reduction in Windows
Step 1: Run the registry editor from Run (Windows Key + R) and typing regedit or from Windows Search (Windows Key + S) and typing regedit
Step 2: When you have regedit open, simply navigate to the following:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Control Panel>Desktop
Step 3: Click on an empty space in the directory and choose New, followed by DWORD (32-Bit) Value.
Step 4: Name the new entry as “JPEGImportQuality”
Step 5: Double click the entry and from the button toggle, choose “Decimal” and in the “Value data” box enter 100. This will ensure your wallpapers are uncompressed while setting.
Step 6: Once you have done the above, simply click on OK and close regedit. There is no need to reboot or otherwise refresh the system.
The desktop side compression is the reason why some users feel a difference in applying a wallpaper from when they actually got it. Hopefully with the help of this guide you will now get the most from your scenic or otherwise decorative wallpapers!
