Adding to the visual appearance of Windows 10, today we are going to look at how to make Start menu transparent with one simple trick!

While Windows 10 is definitely an eye catching OS when it comes to its appearance, there are still many ways make it look better. Let’s take a look on how to make Start menu transparent with a step-by-step guide. It will remind you of the iconic Aero look and feel from the Windows Vista and 7 days.

A few days ago, we managed to apply a similar technique to making the taskbar transparent in Windows 10. To help add congruence, we will now tell you how to apply the same feature to make your start menu similarly transparent.

To do so, we will make use of the registry editor. Do note that the change is instant for many but on a rare occasion you will have to reboot the system.

Steps to enable Start menu transparency

Step1: Press Windows Key + R and type in Regedit.

Step 2: When you have the registry editor open, navigate to the following directory:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionThemesPersonalize

Step 3: Once you reach here, look for the entry of “Enable Transparency” and set the value to 0.

As you can see, the desktop is now appearing in the background and it gives a really nice look.

It does give a richer translucent look to the Start menu which is a good thing since the live tiles do seem to be a bit more lively if you experiment with the color palette.

While you can try to simply sign out of your current session of Windows to apply this, the registry entry should apply instantly to your start menu.

If you ever face an issue of the Start menu reverting to an opaque look, simply reverse the steps above by setting the value to 1, signing out of the session, sign back in set the value to 1 and you will see the change restored again.
