Google is currently constructing a self-driving car development center in Novi, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. The location happens to be in the backyard of Motor City, which is where GM and other large car companies also have production facilities.

In a Google+ post the company said:

Many of our current partners are based here, so having a local facility will help us collaborate more easily and access Michigan’s top talent in vehicle development and engineering. At this 53,000 sq ft development center, our engineers, working with local partners, will further develop and refine self-driving technology.

Google will be moving into its new self-driving dev center throughout 2016. It also confirmed that the center will be the place it will modify the previously announced 100 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans with self-driving technology.
