Save Images More Comfortably With Image Fetcher

Image Fetcher is a browser add-on for the Firefox web browser that simplifies the image downloading process.

If you download images from Internet sites frequently, you may have come to the conclusion that the default option to do so is not the most comfortable one: right-click on any image you want to save, select the save image option from the context menu that opens up, and select a folder on the local drive to save the image to.

Might work for the occasional image, but what if you download dozens or even hundreds a day? Download managers and add-ons that can batch download images from websites might be an opportunity, but they may as well be overkill for downloading just a few selected images.

That’s where Image Fetcher for the Firefox web browser has found its niche. The browser add-on speeds up the process of saving images in the web browser without making the process overly complicated.

It basically displays a Save link whenever you hover over an image on a website for some time. That save link can be clicked on with the left mouse button to save the image to the local computer system.

A file save window is displayed which, to be honest, leaves room for further improvements. If you save the image to the same directory all the time, it would be nice if you could bypass the save dialog completely to save time.

Image Fetcher saves you from having to right-click on images to save them. One issue is the fact that Image Fetcher will save the shown image, and not the linked image. If a thumbnail is shown only on a page, it will be saved.

Image Fetcher is compatible with all Firefox 3.x versions. The add-on is available at the Mozilla Firefox add-on repository.

Update: Image Fetcher has not been updated since 2010, and the add-on as a consequence is no longer compatible with newer versions of the Firefox web browser. Alternatives are Context Menu Image Saver, Image Picker or Image Download II. They all provide a better image saving functionality in the web browser.
