The File Explorer has succeeded My Computer from Windows 8 on wards. It is packed with loads of old and new features, one of which is that it lets you open a file in single click.
The File Explorer is a newer and improved version of the veteran My Computer app. My Computer App has been hanging around since the very beginning of Windows’ existence. It was the place where you could go and directly access your documents, local disks, music etc. However, Windows 8 saw a little change in events and the My Computer was replaced with the similar File Explorer.
The File Explorer was almost the same in Windows 8 as the My Computer was in the previous Windows. It stayed the same in Windows 8.1 but it was in Windows 10 that it saw some change in functionality through the inclusion of Quick Access.
The Quick Access was a feature introduced to make things much quicker for us to access. It kept a record of each and every document that you would open as well so it kind of had a keep history feature like our browsers do. I didn’t find that useful so I removed recent files from it. Apart from this, the Quick Access can be manipulated by changing Quick Access folders location, getting tabs in it via a third party application called Clover etc.
If these babies weren’t good enough for you, File Explorer also allows you to open a file in single click. I don’t exactly know how old or new this feature is but it sure is a nice one. Without having to double click to open every file, you can simply open a file in single click. This is particularly useful for people who own laptops as double tapping everytime on the touchpad is a tad more painful than on an external mouse.
Steps to open a file in single click in File Explorer
Step 1: Open File Explorer.
Step 2: Click on View.
Step 3: Click on Options.
Step 4: In the resulting window, check the box that says Single click to open an item as shown in the image below.
That’s it.
