Micromax’s Yu Televentures has launched its flagship phone, the Yutopia, in India. With earlier offerings by Yu focused on the entry-level segment, the Yutopia represents the vendor’s first efforts at the high-end market. There are a lot of elements you’d expect in a 2015 flagship: the Yutopia sports a metal body, a QHD display, 4GB of RAM and a 21MP (Sony IMX230) camera with OIS along with Cyanogen OS 12.1 out of the box. There’s even a fingerprint sensor at the back, which can be configured as a shutter button to take photos in addition to authentication.
With local vendors often deciding to go with MediaTek hardware to save costs, Yu is the first Indian vendor to offer the Snapdragon 810 SoC with Quick Charge 2.0 tech built-in. Here’s what you get with the Yu Yutopia:

Yu has also mentioned that the Yutopia would be bundled with House Of Marley’s Little Bird earphones. The vendor is also dabbling in the software ecosystem, launching a service called Around Yu that collates food, travel and business listings near your location from a single interface. Think of it as Yu’s take on Google Now.
The hardware on offer certainly seems enticing, but we’ll have to wait and see if that holds up in day to day usage. The device is up for pre-order on Amazon India for ₹24,999 ($375), with deliveries commencing from December 26. Yu also talked about assured upgrades, stating that all users of the Yutopia will be able to automatically make the switch to Yutopia 2, which will launch in a year’s time, receiving up to 40 percent of the value of the phone. That’s a decent deal considering the depreciating value of handsets.
