Windows 10 allows you to do much more than you could possibly imagine with your Start menu. Another personalization that you can implement is to make groups of apps in it.
The Start menu is the menu that appears whenever you click on the Windows icon in the Taskbar or simply press the Windows button on your keyboard. Since Windows 8/8.1, the implementation of the Start menu has been a constant source of debate as to whether its implementation was an upgrade or a downgrade on its design in Windows 7. Although the live tiles looked beautiful, users were discontented by the fact that they could no longer access all programs simply through the Windows button.
Windows 10 however has returned it to the way that pleases both groups, those that liked the new Windows 8/8.1 Start menu and those who didn’t. It is a good combination of Windows 7’s and Windows 8/8.1’s Start menu as it provides the functionality of both of them such as Live tiles and one click access to many programs.
Just like you can do tons of stuff to your Taskbar such as change its thumbnail size, rearrange pinned items from it, change its color etc. Windows 10 allows you to do a lot with your Start menu as well. It includes the ability to re-size it by making it wider or narrower, add folders to it, disable its transparency etc. Another thing that we can do is to make groups of apps in it. It is similar to how we group apps in Android or iOS in one folder and then rename it to remember which type of apps are where in our smartphones.
To make groups of apps in the Start menu, follow the steps below. Note that you do require pinned items to apply this feature.
Step 1: Open Start menu.
Step 2: Hover your cursor above the apps you wish to group together and click on the Name group that will appear as shown in the image below.
Step 3: Click on it and then rename it to whatever you want to as shown in the image below.
Step 4 (Optional): You can also move these grouped apps anywhere you like in the Start menu as well.
