At the Google for India keynote, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced a new Translate feature that will be making its debut in country in the first quarter of 2016. Dubbed Tap to Translate, the feature lets users instantly translate text from within a third-party app, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and more.

“Our most active users in India translate between Hindi and English multiple times a day, spending lots of time copying messages from friends or colleagues, translating them, writing responses, translating their responses, and then pasting them back into an app. With Tap to Translate you can copy text anywhere on your Android phone and instantly get the translation, right then and there — without ever leaving the app. No more copy/paste, no more app switching, just instant translations.”
The search giant launched the feature back in October, stating that all devices that run Marshmallow will be able to take advantage of the text selection behavior to offer instant translations from within any app, provided they have Google Translate installed. Today’s announcement sees Google providing a timeframe for the launch of Tap to Translate in the country.
