Instagram adds long-press to preview, like and share images

Don’t call it “force touch.”

Instagram’s latest update adds a feature that allows you to preview images in the gallery view when you long press them. Slide over to the three buttons beneath each image and you can quickly like the pic, view the user’s profile, or share the shot.

And, well, that’s it. It’s sort of like the iOS version in that you touch the screen to make all this happen, but you’re doing so via the length of the press, and not the force of the finger. And unlike in iOS, you can’t do anything from the app icon on the home screen. Otherwise, same thing.

(And since folks will ask, yes, Android has (and has had for some time) the ability to measure pressure sensitivity via the getPressure feature, though sensitivity will vary depending on device. The Huawei Mate S Luxury Edition brings a truly pressure sensitive touchscreen to Android.)
