Nexus Sensor Hub

With the launch of the new Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, Google is including a new “Sensor Hub” to enable the phones to be even more aware of their surroundings. The Sensor Hub is an all-encompassing system that lets the phone know when it’s being moved, the finely recognize gestures when it’s in your hand, and even more simple things like just when it’s been picked up.

The Sensor Hub is a low-level system that in itself doesn’t do much, but it enables the system and apps to lean on the available sensor data. For example when your phone is picked up while locked the screen will turn on into an ambient mode — much like what Motorola has been doing.

We’ll get deeper into the Sensor Hub when we have the new Nexus 5X and 6P in our hands with the latest Marshmallow on board.
